When understanding the basics of garage door motor remote controls, you must know that both LiftMaster and Genie have specific programming steps to follow.
For LiftMaster remotes, locate the ‘Learn’ button on the opener, press and release it, then press the remote button within 30 seconds. If the LED light turns off, you’ve successfully programmed the remote.
For Genie, remove the battery’s protective film, press the learn button until the LED turns blue, then press the remote button twice. You’ll know it’s successful when the LEDs on the opener flash.
First, locate the Learn button on the device to start the process.
The small LED is beside a button with one of five colours: green, orange, red, purple, or yellow. Once found, press and release it. Within a 30-second window, you need to press and hold the button on the LiftMaster remote control.
A cue will follow; the LED indicator light will turn off, or the garage door operator lights will blink. This is the device’s way of saying, ‘Success! I’ve learnt the command.’
The process is slightly different if you are dealing with a LiftMaster MAX. You will look for the Program button instead of Learn. After pressing and releasing it, you will select the remote control button to program, wait for the LED to stop blinking, press it again, and finally, press another button to seal the deal.
Setting up the MAX (LM 893max) model differs slightly from the 1-button models.
First, you’ll need to locate the Program button on the device on the back of the fob under the visor clip.
Once you find it, please give it a quick click and release it. After that, tap and release the button on the remote control you want to program. Wait for a moment until the remote control’s LED light stops blinking.
Then, click and release the same button once more. To complete the process, press any other button on the remote control. Now, you’re all set!
